10 Minute Tomato & Basil Pasta Sauce

This amazingly easy pasta sauce recipe can be made in under ten minutes, tastes much better than store bought tomato pasta sauce and keeps very well in the freezer for up to three months. It’s perfect for a last minute meal or make extra and freeze portions for those evenings when you don’t feel like cooking.

Makes about 4 servings. Preparation time 5mins, cooking time 5mins.

What You Need To Make Your 10 Minute Tomato & Basil Pasta Sauce

  • 1 Medium Onion, Peeled and Finely Chopped
  • 1 Tin Chopped Tomatoes or Whole Peeled Tomatoes
  • 1 Tbsp Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Tsp Crushed Garlic
  • ½ Tsp Course Ground Black Pepper
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Dried Chopped Basil or ¼ Cup Fresh Basil Finely Chopped
  • Optional Parmesan Cheese for Garnishing

How To Make The Tomato & Basil Pasta Sauce

Heat up the olive oil over a high heat then fry the chopped onion and garlic until golden brown. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer over a medium heat for 5 minutes. Puree the sauce in a blender or if you used chopped tomatoes the sauce can be served chunky. Serve over freshly cooked spaghetti, fettuccine, linguine or gnocchi.

For a richer taste, allow the sauce to simmer over a low heat for half an hour, add a quarter cup of water to prevent it from drying out. The sauce keeps well in the freezer and can be defrosted and reheated in the microwave when required.

This pasta sauce goes really well with homemade gnocchi, although this takes a lot longer than 10 minutes to make but it really is worth the effort. You’ll also have something to brag about when your friends and family come over.

If you’re looking for a slightly richer sauce, here’s a recipe for a creamy gorgonzola cheese sauce, also easy to make and tastes great.
